President Kufuor Explains Significance of Awards
President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday, defended the creation of the "Grand Order of the Star and Eagles of Ghana" to honour Ghanaian Heads of State, as a legitimate necessity.  "I wish to observe that the law establishing the Award of national honours did not provide specifically for an Order for the Head of State, which is the highest office of the land."

Christians Urged to be Faithful in Payment of Tithes
Reverend Kwadwo Owusu-Sarpong, Sunyani Odumase District Minister of Presbyterian Church of Ghana has appealed to Christians to be faithful in the payment of Tithes to reduce the numerous fund-raising activities in the church. He noted that because of unfaithfulness and laxity in the payment of tithes the financial situation in the church was precarious.

PNC to Review Implementation of NHIS - Dr Mahama
Dr Edward Nasigirie Mahama, Proponent of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), on Thursday said a Peoples National Convention (PNC) Government would review, strengthen and expand the scheme. He said: "The NHIS is currently being implemented on one leg, hence the teething problems associated with its administration but unfortunately the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to consult the initiators.

Ghana Drops To No. 20 In FIFA Ranking
Ghana's Black Stars dropped further in the FIFA rankings, losing out from the 16th to the 20th position in the latest rankings released yesterday, even though they are still the second best in Africa. Cameroun are still the top-ranked side in Africa, maintaining their 13th position in the world, while new European Champions Spain take over as the the new number one nation.

Asamoah Boateng: "Rawlings' comments nonsence and incoherent"
The Ministry of Information and National Orientation says it has tabled a number of issues against former President Jerry John Rawlings, which it would publish by end of the week. Sector Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng disclosed on ASEMPA NEWS that, Flt Lt Rawlings’ claims on certain issues particularly those concerning the June 4th uprising, are inconsistent with the principles he claims to stand for.

Ghana's currency has not been stabilised
Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Organiser of National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government could not stabilise the cedi to put the economy on a sound foundation for growth. He said despite claims by government that there had been an improvement in the economy, the cedi continued to depreciate against the major currencies. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was speaking at the launching of NDC campaign in Suhum Constituency at a rally at Suhum.
