Kumasi Asante have qualified to represent Ghana in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League after winning the GFA Normalization Special Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors had to go through the hard way after they won on penalties against Karela FC.

The final of the Tier One Special Cup was played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday June 23,2019.

The fans at the Stadium mainly made up of Kotoko fans were treated to an afternoon of great football from both sides though Karela enjoyed possession in most minutes of the game.

Kotoko had to come from behind to come take the game to penalty shoot out. Karelia scored the first goal in the early times of the second half after Sarfo Taylor connected a cross.

Kotoko lifted up their game after going down. Coach C.K Akunnor made two quick substitutions when he took off Jordan Opoku and Kwame Sarfo and brought on Kwame Boahene and Stephen Nyarko.

Karela could not contain the consistent and constant pressure from Kotoko and so succumbed to a penalty after Abdul Fatau was pushed down in the dying period of the game.
Fatau planted the ball calmly into the net to make it 1-1.

Both sides then created good chances to increase the tally but nine materialized.
Kotoko then won 4-1 from penalty shoot out with Karela missing the first two shots.

Both sides were awarded cash prizes from the GFA Normalization Committee led by Dr. Kofi Amoah.
