Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency, Muntaka Mubarak has been accused of assaulting a woman at a registration centre at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti region during the Limited Registration exercise.
According to some media reports, the victim, Zeinab Jibril, an activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) allegedly pulled a veil of a lady the MP had brought to the registration centre on suspicion she may be a minor.
Her conduct allegedly infuriated Hon Mubarak leading to the alleged assault. As NPP supporters attempted to rescue Ms Jibril, National Democratic Congress supporters at the registration centre joined in leading to a free-for- all fight.
In the course of the fight, vehicle windscreens were smashed, registration materials destroyed and three people sustained various degrees of injuries.
Ms Jibril, popularly known as Mma Canada, reported the matter to the Asokore-Mampong Police and was given a medical form for treatment.
Hon Mubarak, who is a deputy Minority Whip, reported himself to the police and has since been granted bail.
Meanwhile, police at Asokore-Mampong have begun investigations to verify whether indeed the MP assaulted the woman.
