Spare parts dealers

Members of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association have given the government a two-week ultimatum to clamp down on foreigners engaged in retail business in the country or face their wrath.

The Association says refusal by the government to heed to their call would amount to series of actions by the Association.

Public Relations Officer for the Association, Francis Anom in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen, Thursday said several calls on successive governments to apply the GIPC law have proven futile and it is time for them to act on their own.

The ultimatum, he noted, comes on the back of current agitations between Suame Magazine traders in Kumasi and Nigerian nationals who have opened retail shops at Suame.

“The State has treated traders in this country unfairly over enforcement of laws barring foreigners from our retail markets and so we are giving the State two weeks to give us a way forward on getting foreigners off our retail markets, else we take action,” he threatened.

He said: “The earlier the authorities sit up the better. We the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association will want to affirm our support to our brothers and sisters in Kumasi who have taken it upon themselves to defend the course of freedom and enforce their right in their business.”

Mr Anom said his outfit is also not happy about the derogatory comments by the embattled professor.

“We want to register our displeasure about that shameful speech by the so-called Nigerian Professor which has gone viral on social media.

“We also want to register our displeasure to the Nigerian High Commissioner for attacking our media for doing their rightful job. We want government to work within a matter of two weeks or the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, we will take our destinies into our hands to register our displeasure with the dormant approach taken by government towards this canker in our society,” he noted.
