Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of NDC

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reacted to the impasse between the party and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council following the unsavory remarks made by the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Kwam Zu.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, explained that, some chiefs fall prey to politicians when they dabble in partisan politics.

“This is the reason why the 1992 Constitution banned chiefs from engaging in active politics because chieftaincy is a sacred institution,” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Monday.

The NDC has been banned in all 940 towns and villages at Akyem Abuakwa for failing to render an unqualified apology and pacify the gods of the land.

This was after Mr Zu incurred the wrath of the chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa after he claimed but for the intervention of former President John Mahama, they would still be sharing water with animals.

Despite calls on the NDC leadership to apologise to the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, the party is yet to honour it.

But, Mr Nketia said he is yet to get briefing on how Mr Zu’s issue with Okyenhene was resolved.

“I don’t have the details to talk about it because I was not in the country,” he added.

This notwithstanding General Mosquito said the party leadership will deliberate on the matter and resolve it amicably.
