Bawumia launches School Entrepreneurship Initiative in Tamale

The Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched the National School Entrepreneurship Initiative (SEI) in Tamale with a firm promise that government will prudently manage and transform the local economy to relief the hardships on the populace.

According to him, the fundamentals of the local economy are strong under President Nana Akufo Addo’s leadership.

He emphasized the government’s determination to deliver it’s campaign promises, hence the declaration of the Ghana Beyond Aid mantra.

He said the government has managed the local currency exchange rate much better than the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

“Nana Akufo-Addo was elected into office, and his role is quite simple. Let’s transform, let’s modernize the Ghanaian economy, let’s bring prosperity and let’s relief hardship.”

“When we came into office many people had difficulty in paying their children’s school fees to go to Senior Secondary School and all the headmasters here can attest to that. We were leaving so many people who could not go to Senior High School because their parents could not afford the fees, it was a major hardship.”

“The issue of jobs for the youth was a major challenge. So in this context and against this background, Nana Akufo Addo was very clear that we have to do better. We have to challenge ourselves and that we have to believe that the prosperity that other countries have been able to achieve we can do it as well.”

“Everything is possible if we put our minds to it. And we have to do it quite quickly and set ourselves ambitious targets and goals so that we can deliver on time.”

According to him, government succeeded in bringing the fiscal deficit down to 5.9 percent in 2017 with the anticipation to ensure a further decline to 4.5 percent in 2018.

On the Student Entrepreneurship Initiative Alhaji Dr. Bawumia described the programme as a deliberate effort by government to support students to start thinking about entrepreneurship as means of transforming the local economy.

The Business Development Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal said the programme was designed to enable students grow to be become, responsible entrepreneurs.

He reaffirmed government’s readiness and commitment to support the nation’s youth to withstand global economic challenges.

Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal said enough resources would be committed into the programme to achieve its objective.

The Student Entrepreneurship Initiative (SEI) is a government policy aimed at sending Entrepreneurship education to students.

The Initiative was launched under the theme, “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education: A Bridge to Realising the Ghana Beyond Aid.

What the belief is that when students are exposed to business concepts and plans at an early age, there is a tendency for them to think entrepreneurial and begin to develop products and services while in school.
