A constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West region, Richard Poulabong Bayiilela, has been shot dead by some unknown gunmen on the Wa-Tumu Road.
Joy News’ Rafiq Salam has reported on the Midday News of Joy News that the unfortunate incident happened around 12:30 am of the dawn of Thursday after the chairman, together with 4 other occupants, was returning from a funeral.
Two of the gunmen flashed their torchlight at chairman and his colleagues, forcing them to attempt an escape on sensing danger.
As they attempted to escape, the driver of the Mercedes Benz ML in which they were travelling was shot at but he managed to dodge only for the bullet to hit the head of the NDC chairman.

His body has since been deposited at the Upper West
regional Hospital for autopsy.
The driver of the vehicle was also injured and is currently on admission at the hospital.
Family members of the deceased chairman are asking the police to do a thorough investigation to find the suspects.
The family, according to Rafiq Salam, is not ruling out any foul play but the police say they have ruled out political motivation but have begun investigations into the issue.
The NDC in the Upper West region is set to hold a press conference on the matter.
