The Pharaohs of Egypt kicked off the 2019 Total African Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe.
The Pharaohs pipped the Warriors by a lone goal at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday night.
The goal was scored by striker Mahamoud Trezequet after 42 minutes of play.
Egypt started with some fire power as they pinned the Zimbabweans to their own half for the first 17 minutes of the game.
Liverpool attacker, Mohammed Salah was the main threat for Zimbabwe as they struggled to deal with him on the right side of the Egyptian attacking third.
Khama Biliat the danger man for the Warriors proved a handful for the Egyptians as he created dangerous chances for Zimbabwe occasionally. He had the best chance in the game on 32nd minute to put Zimbabwe ahead but his chip was saved by goalkeeper El Shewany in post for Egypt.
With almost three minutes to go for the first half, Zimbabwe’s captain lost possession in the middle of the pitch to Trezequet who went past three Zimbabwe defenders. He had a one on one with before planting a low curved volley on the left of Sibanda in post for the Warriors.
The Warriors came back in the second half better organised and more sharper but could not utilize the numerous chances created.
