Esperance de Tunis have been declared as the champions of the CAF Champions League 2018-19 season after Wydad Casablanca walked out of the game.

The Black and Gold side retained their title with a 2-1 aggregate win. with the first leg ending 1-1 in Rabat a week ago, Algerian import Bellali scored the only goal to give them advantage over Wydad.

The controversial game took place at the Rades Olympic Stadium in Tunisia with referee Papa Gassama of Gambia at the helm of affairs.

Just before the half hour mark, Wydad scored a goal through Walid el Karti, whose head was beyond the reach Rami Jridi in post for the Tunisians.

However the goal was rules as offside by Referee Bakary Gassama who then refused to consult the video assistant referee for a better decision.

Wydad then refused to continue the game and walked off the pitch after which the CAF President stepped unto the pitch to intervene but Wydad vehemently stood by their decision not to continue.

Esperance were therefore declared champions by the referee after the over one hour break.

This therefore becomes Esperance’s fourth trophy in the tournament as the join the big teams like Al Ahly, TP Mazembe and Eyimba who have all won the title for two consecutive years.
