This comment was in response to a question as to why he switched genres from Gospel to Highlife. Eugene mentioned that he does “good music” and doesn’t see “himself as a gospel musician or a highlife musician” but rather he as a “good musician”.

Kuami Eugene started his musical career at the age of 16 as a gospel musician but he is now known as a Highlife musician. Up to date, no one knows the reason why he ditched the Gospel way to make secular music.

The singer during his days as a Gospel act was called Eugene Marfo but not anymore due to his new genre, Hiplife. He was also known as the “African Prince of Worship”.
