Motorists plying the Tema Motorway are stranded as angry residents of Dawhenya in the Ningo Prampram district of the Greater Accra region have blocked the main road in protest of bad roads.
The angry residents say the Dawhenya to Afienya link road has been neglected by successive governments – a situation affecting economic activities in the area.
Adom News’ Tema correspondent, Isabella Gidiglo Ave reported that, the residents are presently burning tyres and have mounted barriers leaving commuters stranded.
She noted that other link roads from Tema Motorway to Prampram have also been blocked making human and vehicular movement impossible.
Isabella noted that, drivers have to swerve so many potholes to avoid spoiling or damaging their cars.
Some of the residents, mostly drivers, who spoke to Isabella said they have had to spend more on maintenance due to the deplorable nature of the road.
They stressed that, both motorists and passengers endure several discomforts whenever they use the road as it produces a lot of dust with the potholes filled with water whenever it rains.
Aside this, some of the residents said the health risks created by this road cannot be over-emphasised as the dust produced by the road can cause respiratory diseases.
“The deplorable nature of the road negatively affects motorists and passengers. We are pleading with the authorities and all stakeholders to help fix the road,” a driver stated.
The residents said the appeal to the government to fix the road has fallen on deaf ears. They, thus, resolved to demonstrate to get the needed attention.
