Robber Jailed 16 Years

A
25-year-old unemployed man, Kwabena Kwakye, who admitted robbing a frail
coconut seller of GH¢140, has been sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment.

The convict,
popularly known as Bible and a resident of Afoako, near Jacobu in the Amansie
Central District of the Ashanti Region, targeted the victim when he
arrived at Afoako on May 4, 2019 for wake-keeping from Anwiankwanta.

He carried
out the attack after stealing an amplifier belonging to the church of True
Pentecostal Ministries at Atobiase, near Afoako.

He was
sentenced on two counts of robbery and stealing of the amplifier by the Bekwai
Circuit Court presided over by Fredrick Nawura.

The prosecutor
Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori told the court that Kwabena Kwakye trailed the
coconut seller from a drinking spot.

He said the
convict slapped the complainant and robbed him of his bag containing GH¢140.

Inspector
Ofori narrated that the convict also pushed the victim into the gutter.

Some mourners
came to his rescue but Kwakye managed to escape.

The
prosecutor stated that he was later apprehended and handed over to the police.

The judge
sentenced Kwakye to 16 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for robbery and
stealing.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
