Shafiu Mumuni, captain of Ghana’s Black Stars B has set a new record in the WAFU Cup after scoring hatrick to earn Ghana a final in the 2019 WAFU Cup.
Mumuni is the first player to score a hatrick in the WAFU Cup since its inception in 2010.
Ghana beat neighbouring country La Cote d’voire 3-1 in the first semi finals of the WAFU Cup currently on going in Senegal.
The Ashgold striker calmed nerves for the Ghanaians after they had suffered some turbulent attacks from the Ivorians in the early minutes of the game.
His goal came after 30 minutes of action which had the Ivorians squandering most of their goal scoring opportunities.
Mumuni then went on to secure the game for the Ghanaians in the early period of the second half after connecting brilliantly to a cross from Augustine Okrah.
The game was then sealed for the Black Stars in the 51st minute when Shafiu scored the third to put it beyond the Elephants.
Ghana’s goal keeper Ofori Antwi gave the Elephants something to smile when he failed to deal with a harmless freekick which rolled into the net to leave the score 3-1 after 80 minutes of play.
The Stars will now wait for the winner of Senegal and Mali encounter which is the second semi final match to be played on Wednesday, 9th October.
The final will take place on Sunday, 13th October, 2019 in Dakar.
