The Wednesday night football of the UEFA Champions league saw some drama when London based club, Tottenham Hotspurs qualified with the help of the Video Assistance Referee (VAR).

The second leg saw Spurs losing 3-4 to City at the Ettihad Stadium but only after the VAR had disallowed a last minute tap in from Raheem Sterling at the tail end of the game.

Tottenham eliminated highly fancied side, Manchester City on an away goal rule with a 4-4 scoreline. The first leg was won by Spurs 1-0 in London last week.

City gave Spurs an early scare when Raheem Sterling put them ahead in the 3rd minute.

Hung Son Min then cooled tempers for Spurs with two quick goals within three minutes. Bernado Silva then leveled to make it 2-2 after 11 minutes of play.

The third goal scored by Spurs striker Fernando Llorente had to undergo check before been ruled a correct to goal.

Liverpool thrash Porto

The other match saw another English side Liverpool brushing aside FC Porto at the Estadio do drago with a 4-1 scoreline.

The goals were scored by Mane, Salah, Firmino and Van Dyke.

Liverpool qualifies on a 6-1 aggregate to book a mouth watering semi final with FC Barcelona.
