Four children have been killed by a speeding driver at Egya No. 1, a suburb of Anomabo along the Cape-Coast-Accra Highway.
One other child, according to witnesses, is in a critical condition at the Saltpond Hospital.
Joy News’ Central regional correspondent, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko disclosed this on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Wednesday.
According to him, the children between the ages of five and 10 were on their way home from school Tuesday afternoon when the accident occurred as they crossed the road.
The driver of the Hyundai 4×4 vehicle has been arrested and is currently in the Saltpond Police custody, Richard reported.
Preliminary investigations, Kwadwo Nyarko reported, has revealed that, the driver had no license to drive and will be arraigned on Wednesday October 16,2019.
But, residents angered by the spate of accidents, blocked the Anomabo section of the Highway in protest of the killings.
The accident, a resident said, was the second this week alone.
He claimed that another driver knocked and killed seven people on the same stretch Monday.
He added that, many requests for speed ramps to be constructed on that portion of the road have fallen on deaf ears.
Police, however, managed to clear the road for traffic to flow.
